So Relieved!

Poor Pete and I both came down with either the stomach bug or food poisoning on Tuesday within an hour of each other. Nice to share everything with your significant other! It was horrible, but finally over. Thank goodness for Justine, who comes in to give Pete's Mom a bath each morning. She came in multiple times to take care of her toileting, and came to put her to bed at night and get her up in the morning. I just didn't want to get near her to keep her from catching it. So far, so good. But I don't know what we would have done without the extra help.

Our yard and driveway are an icy mess. We had that huge snowfall, then the temperature soared for a day and we had over 2 inches of rain, then it all froze again. Our town has a big pile of dirt that residents can take if needed, and Pete went and got 8 five-gallon buckets full this morning. At least we'll be able to stop at the end of the driveway instead of sliding onto the road.

I found this picture of Jack from a while ago. I had been cleaning in one of the bedrooms and left a roll of paper towels out - last time I'll make that mistake. We never heard a thing, but when we rounded the corner to head in to bed, this is what we found:

Couldn't get mad. He just looked so proud of himself!

Next week we're having a lunchtime housewarming for our associate pastor who is getting divorced and moving to a new home. Her wife owned almost everything going into the marriage, and apparently she is taking almost everything. We're giving her a gift card so she can buy what she wants/needs, and a few kitchen things so she'll have something more tangible to open. We're having hors d'oeuvres and cake, and I'm trying to think of a good hors d'oeuvre to take. Does anyone have any ideas?

  1. Deviled eggs are the most popular thing to bring to a party or potluck. Siamese are a particularly impish breed of cat! We had one once who climbed up my lace tablecloth and jumped onto the floor lamp and knocked it over. :-O
    ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

    1. Great idea - one of Pete's specialties so maybe he would even make them for me to take! Life is never boring with pets around.

  2. So here is one 'blog/pen friend cheering you up from the UK.r
Typical Siamese trick all that paper - what a clever cat!
For that buffet table what about pigs in blankets - tiny cocktail sausages each one wrapped around with a slice of streaky bacon. If you so them then make sure the end of the streaky bacon is underneath when you put them on the baking tray to cook in the oven. A cocktail stick in each one at the table helps too.

    1. Here we wrap cocktail sausages or mini hot dogs in refrigerated roll-and-bake croissant dough and call them pigs in blankets. I think your version sounds better! Or maybe a combination of both - roll them in the streaky bacon and then wrap the whole thing with dough!

  3. I hope you're both feeling much better now. It's never nice being ill especially when you don't have someone to look after you. Thank goodness you had some help for Pete's mum, it would have been horrible for her to have suffered wih it too.
Love the photograph of Jack - that expression! X

    1. We never would have imagined we would both be sick at the same time so hadn't made provision. Good wake-up call I guess. Jack is certainly a little devil!

  4. We just went out for our first meal since and it was wonderful. I threw out almost everything in the refrigerator in case we had had food poisoning, so we headed to the local diner. Think we're back to normal now!
